A good rule of thumb is around 10 strands of 15-30 cm. Mane hair is what we prefer, but tail hair works too — just pick the finest strands you can find. When in doubt, rather send too much than too little. This is especially true for white hair, which can be slightly see-through — the more we have to work with, the better the result.

In short: wash the hair, let it dry completely, place it in a zip-lock bag and send it to the address you receive when placing your order.

Allow up to a month from when we receive your hair to when your piece is on its way to you, though most pieces are ready in two to three weeks. Production time depends on how many beads your piece contains — each bead takes around an hour to make, so pieces with more beads naturally take longer. We take great pride in the quality of our craft, and if we're not completely satisfied with the result, we start over — so you always receive a piece we're proud of.

All our jewelry is made in 925 sterling silver — either silver or gold-plated. The hair is encased in jewelry-grade resin. The only exception is the Thea bead, which is pure resin.

Each bead is cast freely by hand without the use of a mold. This means no two beads are ever identical — and that's exactly the point. Casting by hand gives us full control over how the hair sits and comes through in the bead, and allows us to achieve the delicate, discreet look DZYZ is known for. It's also why each bead takes around an hour to make.

Yes, if you'd like. When placing your order, let us know in the personalization box whether you want the remaining hair returned or if we may dispose of it.

Yes. The only thing that matters is that you have the hair. Whether your horse is still with you or not — as long as you have hair saved, we can make a piece for you.

Yes. We make jewelry with hair from all pets for a small additional fee of 100 DKK. The shorter hair from dogs, cats and other furry animals is more delicate and harder to work with, and the fee reflects the extra craftsmanship involved.

Yes — our gift cards never expire and can be used on all products in the shop. Gift cards are available from 100–1,000 DKK. If you'd like a larger gift card, reach out at dzyz.connect@outlook.com and we'll create one for you.

As all our pieces are handmade and unique, we do not accept returns on custom jewelry. If you experience a fault or damage, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Yes, we ship internationally. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

We recommend sending the hair with a tracked service. DZYZ is not responsible for hair lost during shipping to us.

A splash is nothing. The hair inside is sealed in cured resin and can never be reached by water. What you should avoid is chlorine and salt water, which wear gold plating, and daily showering, which speeds up tarnish on silver.

Neither is better in general, only for you. Gold-plated if you wear gold tones, and especially for earrings, where the plating lasts for years because nothing rubs against them. Sterling silver if it is a ring or a bracelet you will wear every single day, or if you would rather have something that can be polished back to new indefinitely.

Yes, by arrangement. It is not a standard option in the shop, so write to us before you order and we will agree the practical side. A pinch is enough for one bead, and whatever we do not use comes back to you. There is no surcharge — an ash piece costs the same as the same piece in hair.

Yes. Everything is 925 sterling silver, either silver or gold-plated, and it is nickel-free. Reactions to silver jewelry are almost always a reaction to nickel in a cheaper base metal, which is not what is underneath here.

Put it on last, after perfume and lotion. Take it off for swimming and for the gym. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store it dry and separately so pieces do not rub against each other. Do not use a silver polishing cloth on a gold-plated piece — those are abrasive and remove the plating.

From 949 DKK for a single loose bead up to around 2,800 DKK for our most worked designs. The price is the same whether the piece is made with hair or, by arrangement, with ashes. Hair from dogs, cats and other pets carries an additional 100 DKK, because the shorter hair takes more work.
